Summary

A missing woman。
A husband suspected。
The truth will … Take Your Breath Away

It’s always the husband, isn’t it?

One weekend, while Andrew Mason was on a fishing trip, his wife, Brie, vanished without a trace。 Most people assumed Andy had got away with murder, but the police couldn’t build a strong case against him。 For a while, Andy hit rock bottom – he drank too much, was abandoned by his friends, nearly lost his business and became a pariah in the place he had once called home。

Now, six years later, Andy has put his life back together。 He’s sold the house he shared with Brie and moved away for a fresh start。 When he hears his old house has been bulldozed and a new house built in its place, he’s not bothered。 He’s settled with a new partner, Jayne, and life is good。

But Andy’s peaceful world is about to shatter。 One day, a woman shows up at his old address, screaming, ‘Where’s my house? What’s happened to my house?' And then, just as suddenly as she appeared, the woman – who bears a striking resemblance to Brie – is gone。 The police are notified and old questions – and dark suspicions – resurface。

Could Brie really be alive after all these years? If so, where has she been? It soon becomes clear that Andy’s future, and the lives of those closest to him, depends on discovering what the hell is going on。 The trick will be whether he can stay alive long enough to unearth the answers…

5/5 - The mysterious disappearance of Brie Mason will keep you on your toes until the final chapter。 This is a fresh take on the missing person trope with plenty of twists and engaging plot lines。 Every time I thought I had the ending figured out I was thrown for another loop。 Definitely interested in reading more from Barclay。Thank you to the publisher for this ARC!

I do not know why, but I loved reading police interviews! Ha! The story did drag a bit in the middle before things picked up again towards the end。 As much as I liked the plot and the mystery surrounding Brie's disappearance, I did feel it meanders quite a bit。 Regardless, I still liked the story for the twists and turns and good characters depth。 You may want to give this a read if you're looking for an entertaining domestic suspense/thriller! If Brie is alive, where has she been and why hasn’t she ever contacted him or anyone in her family? Andrew feels like his new life is beginning to unravel。 If he doesn’t want to lose Jayne, he needs to either find Brie or find out what happened to her。I always enjoy reading Linwood Barclay。 The pacing in this book was hypnotic, pulling the reader through to the very end。 It was very hard to put down。 The twists and turns of the plot kept me guessing until the very end。 This book is for readers who like Rachel Hawkins。Robyn Heil, Buyer for Brodart Co。 。。。more

Take Your Breath Away is the 2nd Linwood Barclay book I have read, and let's just make it official, I'm a fan。 The pacing in this thriller is good as it felt like there was some type of new development in most of the chapters。 So my interest level was high throughout as I just didn't know what I would possibly find out next。 It makes for a fun read when the writer keeps you on your toes and has you constantly trying to come up with theories as to what exactly happened and what direction the stor Take Your Breath Away is the 2nd Linwood Barclay book I have read, and let's just make it official, I'm a fan。 The pacing in this thriller is good as it felt like there was some type of new development in most of the chapters。 So my interest level was high throughout as I just didn't know what I would possibly find out next。 It makes for a fun read when the writer keeps you on your toes and has you constantly trying to come up with theories as to what exactly happened and what direction the story will go in。The premise is fairly simple。 Six years ago, Brie Mason vanished without a trace。 Her husband, Andrew, was the primary suspect but police were unable to build a strong case against him。 Now get this, a woman has been seen around town with a striking resemblance to Brie。 But so far nobody has been able to get her to stay in one place and sit down for questioning。 So, is this woman Brie? The story bounces back and forth between many of the key players, including Andrew。 You really don't know who to trust so you basically are suspicious of everyone。 Lots of twists make it an entertaining read。 I was reasonably satisfied with the conclusion。 I maybe side-eyed a few things but for the most part it stayed within normal thriller parameters。 We live in a crazy world so just about anything seems like it could happen, right?I recommend this book if you are looking for a thriller that will keep you interested without taxing your brain。 Perfect as a vacation read。Thank you to William Morrow for providing me with an advance copy! This review is based on an advance reader copy I received through a Goodreads giveaway。This is a fairly engaging murder-mystery that keeps the reader guessing until the end。 Barclay does really like cliff-hangar chapter endings, which feels a bit cheap at times, but does work to get you reading "one more chapter"。 A few sections were slow, but as with good mysteries, some of those seemingly mundane details come back at the end。 This review is based on an advance reader copy I received through a Goodreads giveaway。This is a fairly engaging murder-mystery that keeps the reader guessing until the end。 Barclay does really like cliff-hangar chapter endings, which feels a bit cheap at times, but does work to get you reading "one more chapter"。 A few sections were slow, but as with good mysteries, some of those seemingly mundane details come back at the end。 。。。more
